My challenge: To complete a gruelling 15km Desert Bush Walk in Botswana and raise R30,000 for scholarships at the school.
Hello family, friends and fellow Kamhlabans, my name is Thakane Molapo and I am a WK alumnus.
On Saturday, 29th July I will be participating in the Botswana Desert Bush Walk taking place in Jwaneng, Botswana. I am challenging myself to walk 15km on sand and under intense heat and I’m asking for your support in making pledges to sponsor me in this effort to raise funds for the Waterford Kamhlaba (WK) scholarship fund. The scholarship provides financial assistance to under privileged students to attend this institution.
I am asking for pledges of R50-100 per km that I complete. Of course I am also open to donations of 10-30 Pound Sterling, Euros or US dollars per km depending on whatever currency you use. Whatever you can do will make a difference in a student’s life! Lump sum amounts are also welcome. My target is to raise a minimum of R30,000.
Some background: For years, WK has provided scholarships to stunningly talented young people even when the school had not received sufficient donations to cover the cost. It did this by drawing down the school’s reserves—such was the school’s commitment to ensuring economic and social diversity in its student body and its belief in the need to give back to the communities and continent that support it. However, WK has had to reduce the number of scholarships (full or partial) it could offer. As a result, almost 30 fewer students receive financial assistance in 2023 than did in 2019. We want to reverse that!
