Sandile Hlophe (RSA, WK 84-89) is planning to rediscover his lost running speed through an intensive running training programme with a speed target he plans to hit by the end of this year in order to raise funds for Waterford Kamhlaba’s Scholarships Fund.
Sandile says “I have recently taken up running 5 kilometers distances to shed the C19 lockdown weight; and breaking the 10 minute per kilometer barrier has been a challenge; which was a surprise for a former athlete who used to sprint and actively played sports (soccer and basket ball) while at WK 1984 to 1989. Two years ago I easily ran 5 km below 6 minutes per km; thus not being able to break 10 minutes has been very surprising, thus I need some motivation to keep up the running and break the 10 minute per km barrier substantially by 18 December 2021.”

His goal is to raise R20 000 for the WK Scholarship Fund
