We’ve done it! 10 Comrades marathons, a green number for me, and a great contribution by all of you to the WK Scholarship Fund. Thank you for your care in getting me over the hills and across the line, and for your amazing generosity in raising some good money!!

My challenge: To complete my Tenth Comrades Marathon and raise R170,000 for scholarships at the school.

I am aiming to complete my 10th Comrades on 11 June 2023. It is a down run from Pietermaritzburg to Durban in Kwazulu Natal, South Africa. The race is 87 km long, and I need to finish in under 12 hours to get my green number, which means the number is retired.

If we can get sponsorship from 100 people, at $1/km per person, we can raise $8,700. That is approx. ZAR170,000 and all of it would go to scholarships.

Some background: For years, WK has provided scholarships to stunningly talented young people even when the school had not received sufficient donations to cover the cost. It did this by drawing down the school’s reserves—such was the school’s commitment to ensuring economic and social diversity in its student body and its belief in the need to give back to the communities and continent that support it. However,  WK has had to reduce the number of scholarships (full or partial) it could offer. As a result, almost 30 fewer students receive financial assistance in 2023 than did in 2019. We want to reverse that!
