Introduction

My name is Njabulo Masuku. I am 41 years old and I was at WK from 1997 and I completed Form 5 in 2000. I did my BSc in Computer Science at Webster University in St Louis (USA) and Geneva (Switzerland) and I completed it in 2005. I studied Social Entrepreneurship at GIBS in 2018 and I just completed my PGDip in Management Practice at Henley Business School.

I have been working for BMW Group at the IT Hub for just over 3 years and I have worked at the Rosslyn Plant in South Africa and now working at Spartanburg in the USA.  I am married and I have three sons, two of them are currently at WK in Form 4 and Form 2 respectively.

Challenge

The idea is to raise a minimum of SZL 13,200.00 per annum to contribute towards the pool of funds used for scholarships.

This is a challenge that is meant to engage at least 12 alums from (approximately) each decade to donate a minimum of SZL 100 each once a year and carry the baton for the month in which they are contributing, and then pass on the baton to one wk contact within their network to do the same.

There will be 11 batons representing each group of alums running simultaneously, collecting a total SZL 1,100 per month. Participants are encouraged and welcome to contribute more than the minimum of SZL 100 per contribution.

If any participant does not have anyone to pass the baton to, then they would need to make another SZL 100 contribution for that month. The point is to ensure that alumni are encouraged to keep in touch and keep the baton moving. This challenge is planned to run perpetually and to grow exponentially.

Objective

Engage 12 alumni from each decade to donate a minimum of SZL 100 annually.

How it Works

  1. Donate SZL 100.
  2. Carry the baton for the month.
  3. Pass the baton to a network contact.
  4. If unable to pass, contribute another SZL 100.

Impact

Collective Effort

11 batons, each representing a decade, collecting SZL 1,100 monthly towards scholarships.

Why Participate?

  1. Foster global understanding, support diversity and inclusion.
  2. Change lives, inspire possibility and empower underprivileged students.
  3. Strengthen alumni bonds.

This program will ensure that the school is able to source more learners from a more diverse background.

There are two payment platforms below – Payfast which works best with South African cards and PayPal for international cards. If for some reason the payment platforms fail to deliver for you, please do have a look at other routes for payment which can be found in the link below. The WK SA Trustees FNB account in Johannesburg (South African Bank Transfers) is a possible alternative and if you use that route please mention “Baton Challenge”  on the payment so the Treasurer will ensure it goes to my challenge!
