All the girls at the school in 1972 – then 20% were girls; now up to 60% are female.
Soulful Seventies Challenge
This Challenge calls on all those who completed their WK studies in the seventies or before that.
We are the generation defined by social and political upheavals and by experiencing two worlds at once as we navigated the world of WK versus the world of apartheid and injustice. We have bone-deep knowledge of the difference a good education can make.
If your world view was shaped or influenced by Michael Stern, Deon Glover, Athol Jennings, Enid Eyeington, Matron Mavuso and Khaki – it is your participation that we seek.
If you yelled “Squeeze” as you started to dance to Marvin Gaye or to the iconic “Stairway to Heaven” – yours is the contribution that we invite.
If you celebrated your work being commended by Khaki, and later that same day, ruefully did a few rounds of “runs” on the field after being reprimanded by the same man.. come join us!
Stand up with us as we aim to raise R1.5m of the Connectivity Project Challenge.
It is a truism that an excellent education is a gift not only for today, but for generations to come.
Our recently-departed Patron, Archbishop Desmond Tutu modelled support for good education.
A new exhibition, Truth To Power: Desmond Tutu and the Churches in the Struggle Against Apartheid, has recently opened in Cape Town. It showcases how his life was integrally linked with education and highlights how education changed the trajectory of his life.
We are excited about bringing connectivity to the the school so that the technology that becomes available to current and future students; and the application of it can be a transformative force in their lives. All funds raised from the Seventies crowd will be added to the 2022 Internet Connectivity Challenge. Let’s be the generation that makes the difference!

The website uses the verified PayFast platform to facilitate the donation process – please use the blue Donate Button at the top or bottom of the page if you’d like to donate. If for some reason your card doesn’t work there then please do consider going instead to the WK Foundation’s PayPal page, a link to which can be found immediately below, and mention “Seventies” on the payment so we can update progress on the challenge site. At Paypal, rather than a single larger donation you could instead set up a smaller monthly payment as an alternative. Thank you so much!
